The Emerald Ball Tokyo will be held on Saturday 17th March 2018. It is the Ireland Funds premier fundraising event and while it is a fitting celebration of our national holiday, St. Patrick's Day, it is also an important event in raising important funds for charity.
The Ireland Funds is a global philanthropic network established in 1976 to promote and support peace, culture, education and community development throughout the island of Ireland and non-related causes around the world. With chapters in 12 countries, The Ireland Funds has raised almost 60 billion yen for deserving causes in Ireland and beyond, benefitting more than 3,000 different organisations. The Japan Chapter of the Ireland Funds was inaugurated in Tokyo on the 7th November 2017 and the Emerald Ball Tokyo 2018 will be a milestone fund raising event on their calendar. In 2017, this prestigious event raised invaluable funds for three main charities, including Support our Kids which supports young children in need of social care, due to prior episodes of abuse and the youth victims of the Great East Japan earthquake.
This will be the 25th Emerald Ball in Tokyo and we are very proud to be able to sustain this high profile and uniquely Irish event. The ball is one of the highlights of the calendar for the Irish community and their friends in Tokyo. It is a celebration of the friendship and cultural ties between Ireland and Japan. The Emerald Ball is one part of a larger weekend of festivities in the Tokyo area, including parades and the I Love Ireland Festival in Yoyogi park. Just as importantly, the Emerald Ball provides a means for the community to give back to the various charities we have supported over the years. Finally, while the Emerald Ball is a chance to celebrate St Patrick’s Day (our national holiday) and all that it means to be Irish, you by no means have to be Irish to attend. As long as you enjoy having a good time among friends, you are most welcome!.
The Emerald Ball organizing committee is made up of volunteers from various walks of life in Tokyo. It’s also important to ensure we can continue the event every year as people in Tokyo come and go. We are supported by the various Irish cultural, business and sporting groups in Japan such as the IJCC (Ireland Japan Chamber of Commerce), the GAA (Gaelic Athletic Association), the INJ (Irish Network Japan) as well as the Embassy of Ireland and various dignitaries from the Irish community in Japan. We welcome and encourage new people to become involved each year as this is crucially important to ensure we keep our standards high and bring new ideas to the event. We look forward to hearing from you – you can contact us on TheEmeraldBallTokyo@gmail.com
